1950’S DOWNTOWN MODERN ADDITION

The Rood Avenue Modern Rustic project was conceived as a way to bring a mountain modern flavor to a small two bedroom 50’s rancher in downtown Grand Junction, CO.  The goal from the client was to gain an entry space with storage as well as a master suite allowing them to stay living downtown while having space for their growing family.  On top of this they wanted storage, storage, storage!

We wanted to give them a design that brought lots of natural light, while attempting to get the best views from downtown.  We were careful to add bedroom windows in a way that would avoid a view of roofs, vents and chimneys. We achieved this with the large south facing windows which provide views of trees and sky but are well shaded from direct sunlight in the summer months.  We created a master bathroom that included a double vanity, large walk-in shower, private water closet and linen storage closet. We met storage goals by adding a master closet that is almost as large as the original bedrooms in the house.

All of this was clad in corrugated bareskin metal siding to provide clean modern lines with a sense of age. This was all well shaded with deep eaves on the south side of the home that included architectural steel bracketing to support the deep overhangs.
